justify;\">De kuifeend (Aythya fuligula) is een middelgrote duikeend die voorkomt in Europa, Azi\u00eb en Noord-Amerika. Hun naam komt van hun uiterlijk, dat doet denken aan een reiger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">De mannelijke kuifeenden hebben een zwart-wit verenkleed en een opvallende bruine kop. De vrouwtjes zijn tamelijk onopvallend grijsbruin gekleurd. Beide geslachten hebben een opvallende blauwe snavel met een zwarte nagel en een witte vlek aan het uiteinde.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tufted-eenden geven de voorkeur aan stilstaande of langzaam bewegende watermassa&#8217;s, zoals meren, vijvers en rivieren. Ze voeden zich voornamelijk met waterplanten en kleine dieren zoals insectenlarven, schaaldieren en slakken.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tijdens het broedseizoen vormen kuifeenden paren en bouwen hun nest aan het water, vaak in riet of op de oever onder struiken. De vrouwtjes leggen ongeveer acht tot twaalf eieren, die ze alleen uitbroeden.
